Skydome: 30 % lower seismic mass
9 September 2020
Skydome is formwork for voided slabs that reduces the mass of the slab up to 30 %. Compared to the full concrete slab, the waffle slab requires thinner walls and allows fewer columns. That way, the whole building structure is more lightweight and offers considerable advantages in seismic performance.
An important aspect of building construction is to achieve seismic-resistant structure. Voided slab solution reduces the oscillation of a building during the earthquake thus increasing its structural resistance. Skydome is contributing to seismic resilience by reducing the seismic mass of the building as well as keeping the strength of the slab.
