Myth vs fact about sustainable construction
6 December 2022
Let’s pick up the most prevalent myths about sustainable construction and explain why you should put them to rest.
Myth #1: Sustainable construction is more expensive
This one is the most widespread one of all. In actual fact, sustainable solutions can improve logistics, building speed, and reduce the use of materials, making the construction process more profitable. Energy efficiency and stormwater management also lower future expenses, increasing resale value.

Myth #2: Sustainable products are unavailable
Yes, we are accustomed to using concrete, metal, and EPS, but does this mean sustainable alternatives are hard to come by? Geoplast products are easily accessible worldwide for buying or renting – contact our consulting team any time for more detailed information.

Myth #3: Sustainable products are not suitable for every project
Off-grid cabins may have been the archetype of sustainable construction once, but things have changed a great deal since. Today we have solutions for improving the sustainability of different parts of the building and types of projects, foundations to roof, large or small.

Myth #4: Sustainability is about solar panels
It is a common misconception that sustainable construction can be dealt with after the building is finished, by placing a few solar panels on the roof. On the contrary, we have and should use solutions that deal with various aspects of construction: material saving, worksite productivity, transportation, installation, waste reduction, etc.

Myth #5: Sustainable buildings take longer to build
People often think sustainable construction is more complicated and takes longer to build. The truth is just the opposite. Due to their lightness and stackability, our sustainable solutions require less transport, storage space, and on-site machinery, speeding up the building process.

Myth #6: Sustainable construction requires special worker skills
Another myth is that sustainable solutions require special or expert skills to install. In fact, with innovative design and reduced weight, they can be easily installed by anyone, without any instructions, by inexperienced workers.

Myth #7: Rating systems are difficult to achieve
Not at all. Joining the LEED rating system is easy. Each sustainable product carries a specific number of points for addressing environmental issues. You collect the points to be awarded a specific level of certification: Certified (40-49 points), Silver (50-59), Gold (60-79, or Platinum (80+).

Myth #8: It is a passing trend
This one is the falsest one of all. There is no way around the climate crisis and the same goes for sustainable construction – it is here to stay and will soon be the ONLY way to build.
