Geotub Case Study at Smithfield Bunnings Warehouse in Sidney

Problem

Bunnings Warehouse is an international household hardware chain, that has stores in Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, and Ireland. In 2017 the works for the construction of their newest locations in Smithfield in the outer suburbs of Sidney, began. For this purpose Bunnings required the casting of 150 pylons with a diamenter of 600mm, a process that with traditional formworks normally entails the purchase of 150 individual sacrificial forms.

Solution

After an initial consultation with the client Form Doctors, Allcon our Australian Distributor, recommended the supply of Geoplast’s Geotub, the ABS formwork system for the creation of 15 x 600mm round concrete columns. With Geoplast plastic formwork, the client was able to reuse the 15 forms 10 times across the project, saving a significant amount in material purchase costs.

Geotub the ABS round formwork for columns of Geoplast was perfect for this aim. Thanks to its weight of less than 11 kg per piece, it was possible to shave off several hours of formworking. Thanks to its extremely fast, no-tool installation it is easier than other traditional methods like cardboard or metal spiral duct, that normally require significantly more bracing which takes more time to prepare.

The customer was Form Doctors  a formwork company established to provide an alternative approach to formwork construction. Thanks to the collaboration with Allcon Group it was possible to deliver an innovative outlook to the project, by choosing Geoplast’s Geotub. The formwork was easy to store compactly on site between stages, leading to a reduction of transport costs between the warehouse and the project site.
