New Nautilus Evo case study: New Varyant Tower in Bornova, Turkey

New Nautilus Evo, Geoplast’s permanent void former for lightweight bidirectional slabs, was recently chosen to build the slabs of the new Varyant Tower in Bornova, Turkey. In collaboration with our Turkish distributor ABS Yapı Elemanları, our solution was used for this hexagonally shaped tower, which gives a unique view over the Gulf of Izmir and a panoramic view of the city. The tower attention to details will make life more comfortable and unique, and it will be also provided with an outdoor swimming pool, a fitness room, a lobby lounge, car parks and spacious balconies.
New Nautilus Evo is a modular formwork made of recycled polypropylene (PP) designed to lighten reinforced concrete slabs poured on-site. It is equipped with an innovative central cone – born from Geoplast’s building experience – that improves the traditional formwork and does not have any structural impact. The choice of providing it with a cone comes from the difficulty of obtaining a homogeneous bottom slab, poured on-site. The formwork with the cone ensures:
- lifting reduction during the pour;
- visual check of the lower slab finishing;
- the warranty of the completeness of the structural section;
- homogeneous and perfect intrados finishing.
Thanks to the use of New Nautilus Evo it was possible to reduce the load on the columns, increase the resistance to earthquakes, and distribute the loads of the structure.
