Radon is a colourless, odourless and naturally radioactive gas that is the result of radium decay and generated in turn by uranium decay. These elements can be found whithin the earth’s crust in variable quantities.
Radon is a coulurless, odourless and naturally radioactive gas that is the result of the radium decay which was prevoiusly generated from the uranium decay. These elements can be found within the earth’s crust in variable quantities. Subsoil is the main source of Radon immisions. Radon comes out from the soil gathering in closed environments. It is very dangerous as it is carcinogenic; its prolonged inhaling is the second main cause of lung cancer after cigarettes smoke. The risk to contract a cancer increases depending on the exposure time. The only solution to protect ourselves from Radon gas is the realization of the sanitary breaks within the foundations. The air flow under pavement scatters the gas particles outside the house.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has classified Radon as a carcinogenic gas. Every year in Italy this gas provokes thousands cases of lung cancer. Radon is a radioactive gas so it can be carcinogenic if inhaled. As it comes out from the ground (but also from construction materials especially of volcanic origin such as: tuff, granites and to a lesser extent from water), it straggles in the environment and it gatheres in closed places where it becomes dangerous. It assessed that this is the second cause of lung tumor after cigarettes smoke.
